2010 At The Buzzer Winter League Post-Season Awards. Better late than never! Summer League tippin' off in 3 weeks!!

March 26, 2010

Congratulations to the 2010 At The Buzzer Winter League Champions: Skeeting Jumpers. The Skeeting Jumpers become the 1st team ever to win back to back championships since the league became an open league in 2007. Will they three-peat? The question remains. The team might split up, but for now they can bask in the glory of winning 2 chips in a row. Big ups to the Skeeting J's and Bounce Back played valiantly until the buzzer sounded.

From Left To Right:

Back Row: Jeff "The Razor" Huynh, Wesley "Smif-N-Wessun" Platt, Dave "The Lurch" Shaw, Jamaal "Frooty" Brooks, Kevin "Wu" Tang, Vinh "The Goose" Bui (Captain), Reggie "Big" Carter

Front Row: Phuoc Bui (General Manager)

Congratulations to the 2010 At The Buzzer Winter League Playoffs M.V.P.: Jamaal "Frooty" Brooks. Brooks was also awarded with both the Scoring Title & Regular Season Most Valuable Player. Brooks averaged 29.3 points per game during the playoffs. His career playoffs average is now 30.8 points per game. Brooks becomes the 1st ever triple crown winner winning all 3 individual awards: Regular Season M.V.P. Scoring Title, & Playoffs M.V.P.

Another season in the books. The next season starts June 1st @ The Reggie Lewis Center! See you guys soon!!! Visit our Summer Page on the left side for more information on the upcoming league!

Yours Truly,

J. Son
The Commish

March 25, 2010

Congratulations to the 2010 At The Buzzer Winter League Most Valuable Player, Jamaal "Frooty" Brooks. He also won this season's scoring title with a record breaking average of 39.7 points per game. After helping his team win the championship last season as the #6 seed and winning Playoffs M.V.P. honors with a record breaking playoffs average of 32.3 points per game, it looked like he would be performing an encore this season. A record breaking season both individually and collectively, Brooks & The Skeeting Jumpers were one of the favorites to win it all and repeat for the title. If Brooks wins tonight and receives the Playoffs M.V.P., he will be the 1st ever triple-crown winner (M.V.P., Scoring Title, Playoffs M.V.P.) in league history. Brooks & company already broke almost every single individual/team record, so I guess another one wouldn't hurt. Big ups to Frooty and stay tuned for tonight!

December 12, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 AT THE BUZZER FALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: SKEETING JUMPERS! The #6 seed Skeeting Jumpers become the lowest seed in league history to win a championship.

From Left to Right:

Jamaal "Fruity" Brooks (Playoffs M.V.P.), Dave "The Lurch" Shaw, Melvin "The Eagle" Willis, Jim "Young Buck" Tran, Will "I AM" Em, Jeff "The Razor" Huynh, Joon Son (Exec. Director/Commissioner)

Bottom Row: Kevin Tang The Killah Bee, Vinh Bui aka The Dirty Goose (Captain)

Jamaal "Frooty" Brooks took the league by storm and he took over the playoffs. Capped by an epic 45 point Championship Game performance, it was definitely one for the ages. Brooks averaged 32.3 points per game during his playoffs run against all formidable opponents. Brooks & company had to face the 09 Spring Champs: #3 We The Best, an offensive powerhouse in #7 Team Elite, and finally #1 Onto The Next One, one of the deepest teams in the league. A great season by Brooks, Captain Vinh Bui, & the whole Skeeting Jumpers squad. Onto The Next One's quest to win back to back titles falls short.

Another season in the books. The next one tips off on Jan 5th! Our 17th Season! Happy Holidays Everyone!

Your Neighborhood Commissioner,

Joon Son aka J. Son

November 21, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Fall League Defensive Player of the Season: Reggie Carter. Blaze's man in the middle punished people who came in the lane and was also a rebounding machine. He is also an excellent perimeter defender and can strip you easily like a TSA employee at Logan's Airport. Carter also finished 6th in scoring and was a contender for the regular season M.V.P. award.

So now only 4 teams remain. Who will reign and who will feel pain?? We find out Thursday, December 3, 2009!

#1 Onto The Next One vs #4 ATBxAWOL
#6 Skeeting Jumpers vs #7 Team Elite

Winter League Registration has begun! Tips off on Jan 5th!

Best of The Best Champions Tourney coming soon too! Click on the BOB section on the upper left menu for more information!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll!!

November 18, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Fall League Most Valuable Player: Jimmy Hall. We The Best's prolific scorer also led the league in scoring and earned his 1st scoring title with 29 points per game. He had an epic 53 point performance back on Week 5 that left spectators breathless. With only 4 players suited up on his team, he took it upon himself to drop a nickel + 3 pennies. Unfortunately the game came down to the 0.3 Trent Tucker rule, but Hall has been murdering people this whole season. Congratulations Jimmy Hall.

September 17, 2009

To all the other B-Ball Leagues in the Boston area, I'm going to let you guys finish but, the 2009 At The Buzzer Fall League will be the greatest of all time. All time.

So another season is about to begin. Our 16th Season! The 2009 At The Buzzer Summer League was competitive, but it looks like the 2009 At The Buzzer Fall League will be even better. It's quite possibly the best season yet in terms of competition level. The 4 past Championship teams will be contending this season. Onto The Next One (Formerly Tios: 2009 ATB Summer Champs), We The Best (2009 ATB Spring Champs), Trill (2009 ATB Winter Champs), & ATBxAWOL (Formerly AWOL: 2008 ATB Fall Champs). We've got great teams top to bottom! More trophy awards this season like Rookie Of the Season & Scoring Title! Championship T-Shirts! 50% off any MLB fitted @ At The Buzzer! Back to Brighton! It's going down!!!!!

Congratulations to the 2009 AT THE BUZZER SUMMER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: TIOS aka This Is Our Summer!

Presented By: Wonder Bar Boston 186 Harvard Avenue Allston MA 02134

From Left to Right: Kenny Fass, Ricky Ogboin (Playoffs M.V.P.), Bernard Johnson, Damian Ruff (Captain), Kevin Emmons, Tom Smith, Peter Uzoma

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Summer League Playoffs M.V.P.: Ricky Ogboin.
Ogboin averaged 19 points per game and provided Tios with the much needed offense down the stretch. He also had the game-saving block. He was also this season's Rookie of the Season. Big ups to Slick Rick.

So another season is complete. Tios puts the extra icing on the cake after going 7-0 during the regular season. They finished a new league record 10-0 en route to the chip. Their star players received the M.V.P. award & the Rookie of the Season award respectively. Damian Ruff finally captured a 'chip after 7 seasons.

The next season tips off on Sept 22nd! Back to Brighton! Get your rosters in. Spots are filling up!!!

Remember, all ATB League players receive 10% off merchandise @ At The Buzzer, 81 Harvard Avenue Allston MA 02134!

Peace Ya'll!

- J. Son

August 28, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Summer League Most Valuable Player: Kenny Fass. Fass aka "I Bust Ass" was monumental with helping Tios finish the regular season undefeated. Averaging better than 24 points per game, his game was versatile. He can knock the three, hit the mid-range, and take it to the rack. Congratulations Kenny Fass. His next objective is to capture a 'chip.

The 2009 At The Buzzer Summer League Post-Season Awards are now up!

Jimmy Hall catches an alley-oop. Caught on camera.

June 14, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 AT THE BUZZER SPRING LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: WE THE BEST. After being ousted in the 1st round of last season's playoffs, We The Best made a few roster changes, adding both Josh Lundrigan and Jimmy Hall. Lundrigan eventually tore the league up and won the regular season M.V.P. (see below), and Jimmy Hall helped We The Best solidify themselves as one of the elite teams this season and perhaps in league history. Congratulations to the captain Mike Nazareno for putting together a squad that always boasted, "We The Best" and were able to show and prove.

1st Row (From Left to Right): Jimmy Hall (Playoffs M.V.P.), Mark Nazareno, Mike Nazareno (Captain), Cesar Sanchez, Matt Nazareno, Joon Son (Exec. Director)
2nd Row: Josh Lundrigan (Regular Season M.V.P.), Charles Yuan, Keenan Pight, Ed Thurman
3rd Row: Terry Cineus

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Spring League Playoffs Most Valuable Player: Jimmy Hall. He averaged a record breaking 27.3 points per game during the playoffs.

June 11, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer Spring League Most Valuable Player: Josh Lundrigan. Lundrigan averaged 25.6 points per game and a season leading high 38 points in a game. This is Lundrigan's 2nd Most Valuable Player award. The only other player to win 2 M.V.P. awards was the reigning M.V.P., Mike Bernard. They say the best ballers in the Bean come from Lynn. The last 3 M.V.P.'s have come from Lynn aka Sin City.

May 29, 2009

Spring 2009 Week 5: Player of the Week: Adam Rose (Bruisin' Bruins)

Adam Rose aka The Poisonous Rose stepped up big on Week 5 against the powerhouse One Shot squad. After defeating their last 4 opponents by an average margin of 31 points, they faced a formidable opponent in One Shot. Rose can knock down the three from deep and can also take it to the rack with his length. The Bruins are one of the most complete teams in the league, and with Rose continuing his style, the Bruins can go far in the post-season.

Spring 2009 Week 6: Player of the Week: Bipin Tamang (One Shot)

On Week 6 Bipin Tamang aka B-Low got it IN. He scored a season 31 points, along with eight 3 pointers. Most importantly, he helped get his team a Win. B-Low is one of the deadliest guards in the league, so don't sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death.

Spring 2009 Week 7: Player of the Week: Max Kim (Blaze)

On Week 7, Max Kim aka Madmax light up an inferno. He scored a season high 22 points and helped team Blaze secure a spot in the post-season. M. Kim is one of the deadliest shooters in the league and his length helps him shoot over his defender. Once he's feeling it, you better call 9-1-1 like Sean Kingston.

So the seedings are now in place. Where will amazing happen next? 8 Teams. 1 Champion. This is when real ballers step their game up. PLAYOFFS START NEXT WEEK! SUMMER LEAGUE IN 4 WEEKS! LET'S GO!!!

J. Son

May 19, 2009

Spring 2009 Week 3: Player of the Week: Peter Uzoma (One Shot)

Peter "The Uzi" Uzoma exploded on Week 3 and let out his big guns. He had a fierce battle with the reigning M.V.P. Mike Bernard. Uzoma, and his team One Shot were win-less coming into Week 3 and Uzoma took it upon himself to make sure they would not get another L. He finished the game with 31 points en route to a 1 point victory. One Shot played smart by fouling M. Bernard, since they had fouls to give. P. Uzoma and One Shot should be a team to watch out for. Uzoma will knock you out in ONE SHOT.

Spring 2009 Week 4: Player of the Week: Zee Cruz & Manny Chicha (Mac & Cheese)

On a record breaking week, where 4 players scored 30 points or more, Zee Cruz & Manny Chicha stood out above the rest and became the 2nd tandem to score 30 points or more a piece. It was done previously by Bernard Johnson and Damian Ruff. Zee Cruz is making strides for M.V.P. candidacy. He can take it to the rack, hit the mid-range, and knock down the three pointer. He is an offensive threat that should be dealt with accordingly. He finished the game with 37 points, including a perfect 5 for 5 from the charity stripe. His sidekick, Manny "Fresh" Chicha is a dirty son of a (shut your mouth). He is filthier than Tyrone Biggums. He can knock shots from downtown with the best of them. He knocked down 6 treys on Week 4 and was cooler than a cucumber. Chicha finished with 31 points and he currently has 22 three pointers made this season. An average of 4.4 three point field goals made per game, leading all three pointer shooters. Coincidentally, his opponent from Week 4, Siran "The Deadly Siren" Thapa is 2nd in the league with 21 three pointers made.

So it's now Week 7, technically it's the 6th game for everyone after the BYE week. There are definitely those who will contend for a championship and those who will pretend. Will chemistry come into place as the season dwindles down? There will be 4 teams who will be fishing early this season. There's no more Celtics to watch, so there's no excuse why you shouldn't be at your game from this point on. Every win and every point is crucial in terms of playoffs implications. M.V.P. watch: Joshua Felder, Zee Cruz, Josh Lundrigan, & Peter Uzoma.

Don't forget, the Summer League will tip off June 30th! 16 TEAMS!!! 2 COURTS!!!! IT'S GOING DOWN!!

April 23, 2009

Spring 2009 Week 1: Player of the Week: Josh Lundrigan (We The Best)

After sitting out for one year and looking bulkier than ever, Josh Lundrigan made his comeback in dramatic fashion. He was up to his usual, knocking down treys from deep, and taking it to the cup a la Tony Parker. Lundrigan won the 2008 Winter League Most Valuable Player award, so he's no stranger to the league. With the game tied, Josh Lundrigan had the ball in his hands. He dribbled toward the top of the key and he let a floater fly and it was all net. Lundrigan hit the game winning shot with 3 seconds remaining and helped his squad win their 1st game of the season. Watch out for Lundy. Coming to a gym near you.

Spring 2009 Week 2: Player of the Week: Jahmal Jacson (TBA)

Jahmal Jackson put on for his squad on Week 2. He was knocking down three's with ease and also taking to the cup strong like Brock Lesnar. Watch out for Action Jackson and the whole TBA squad. They're a scrappy bunch. J. Jackson single handedly helped his squad win the game versus Ball 4 Fun on week 2 versus the versatile Mike Bernard. He was just silly nice. Big ups to Action Jackson.

So it's Another season brought to you by yours truly, J. Son aka The Commish aka Mr. At The Buzzer aka I still haven't won a championship. Yes, after 10+ seasons, I have yet to get a 'chip. I won't have an opportunity this season either, since I don't have a team. It just goes to show you I can't even pay the ref extra to win in this league. You have to earn it. This season looks incredibly tough. The competition level has risen, but will players also rise up to the occasion? Only time will tell. We have 12 squads, but only 8 making it to the post-season. Every win and point can come back and haunt you when playoff seeding takes place. A lot of new teams. 2 weeks of the regular season down, 5 weeks to go. It should be an interesting season. BTW, teams with outstanding balances must pay by Week 4, or your team will incur a $25.00 late fee per week. Also, all rosters are now final. If you haven't submitted your changes, it's too late.

ALSO! At The Buzzer League players receive 10% off select sneakers and all New Era products! Come see me! 81 Harvard Avenue, Allston, MA 02134.

CELTICS!!!!

April 1, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 AT THE BUZZER WINTER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: TRILL. The #1 seed Trill played well all season long and continued their great play throughout the playoffs. Playing a formidable opponent in Ball 4 Fun, this game came down to the wire. Congrats again to Blake Day and Team Trill.

From Left to Right: :Sokol Zejnullanhu, Joshua Felder, Ed O'Reilly, Blake Day (Captain), Glenn Stevens, Jonathan Spencer (Playoffs M.V.P.), Shawn Proctor, Joon Son (Exec. Director)

Congratulations to the
2009 AT THE BUZZER WINTER LEAGUE PLAYOFFS MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: JONATHAN SPENCER. J. Spencer aka Ears came in 2nd for regular season M.V.P. voting this season. He helped put his team on his back when they needed him the most.

So another season is complete and in the books. Our 14th season is coming up less than one week! Who will put on for their city?

At The Buzzer League. Where legends are made.

- J. Son

March 27, 2009

Congratulations to the 2009 At The Buzzer (A.T.B.) Winter League Most Valuable Player: Mike Bernard (Ball 4 Fun). This is Mike Bernard's 2nd M.V.P. title, winning it previously in the 2007 Spring League. This is the first time a player has won 2 M.V.P. awards in league history. M. Bernard has been playing great all season from both sides of the court. This is Mike Bernard's fourth season, and it's his 2nd time leading the league in scoring. He did not even receive one technical foul yet, which ruined their chances of winning a championship back in the 2008 Spring League.
Mike Bernard was ejected from that game and their squad eventually lost to the champions: PUMA. This season, Mike Bernard was on a mission. To get that coveted championship. With 2 games down, and 1 to go, Mike Bernard might have something he hasn't shown us yet in the championship game. He was just stupid silly last night in the semi-finals, hitting the game winning three with 5 seconds remaining in regulation. Once again, congratulations to the Most Valuable Player, Mike Bernard.

Congratulations to the recipient of the 2009 At The Buzzer (A.T.B.) Winter League Defensive Player Award: Charles Yuan (We The Best). This is Charles Yuan's 2nd Defensive Player Award, winning it previously in the 2008 Winter League. C. Yuan becomes the 1st player to receive 2 Defensive Player Awards in league history.
C. Yuan gets rebounds, steals, blocks, and has all the intangibles you want in a player. Congratulations to C. Yuan aka Cha Da Rubix.

And then there were 2. #1 Trill versus #3 Ball 4 Fun for the 2009 At The Buzzer Winter League Championship. This is Ball 4 Fun's 2nd trip to the finals, losing in the 2008 Spring League to Puma. This is Trill's first appearance and history is not on their side. The #1 seed has not won a championship title 12 out of the last 13 seasons. Let's see if Trill will continue their hot streak.

For those who didn't register, there are only 3 spots remaining for the upcoming Spring League. Tips off on April 7th! Act Fast! If you want to secure a spot, come to the championship game next Tuesday and talk to me. Hurry up and buy!!!!

- J. Son

March 10, 2009

Week 8 Player of the Week - Kevin Woo (Hurricanes)

Kevin Woo aka K-Dub is a 3 time champion and 2 time playoffs M.V.P. After his team started off at a league worst 0-5, his chances for another chip were slim to none. After winning their last two games, they had a great opportunity on Week 8. Get Down or Lay Down was 3-4 and with another loss, they would be tied with the Hurricanes at 3-5. Whoever won the game would clinch the #8 seed and advance to the playoffs. It was a good ol' fashioned one game playoff. K-Dub was just stupid silly. He scored 23 points in the 1st half including 4 three pointers. He was just a mercenary on a mission. He finished with a season high 34 points and helped the Hurricanes win the game in dramatic fashion. Big ups to K-Dub & the Canes for doing the unthinkable.

So it comes down to this. 8 Teams. Only 1 Champion. LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Post Season Awards Coming Soon!

Peace & Love

- J. Son

Week 5: Player of the Week - Bipin Tamang (We The Best)

Bipin Tamang is no stranger to getting buckets. The 2008 Spring League Regular Season M.V.P. aka Nepal's Finest went on a tear on Week 5, scoring a season high 23 points including 5 treys en route to an overtime victory over the powerhouse Redeem Team. They escaped a close one, after leading by double digits with only minutes to go. Like Paul Pierce said, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!! On the same night, ATB forced overtime over Ball 4 Fun after trailing by double digits. Ball 4 Fun would hold onto the victory in overtime, but it was a crazy game to watch. Also on Week 5, Attic All-Stars won their first game of the season. Beats being win-less all year. Big ups to the Attic and sharp shooting of Andy Ong aka AO. g

Week 6: Player of the Week - Pek Mith/Mike Bernard (We The Best/Ball 4 Fun)

On Week 6, Pek "The Cambodian" Mith was an assassin who was on a mission. He scored a season high 26 points and helped his squad defeat Get Down or Lay Down. He was doing it all. J'ing in his defender's grilly, taking it to the rack, and knocking down free throws (still shooting Shaq Like %'s from the stripe). Pek is a chamealon and he can form into any position. Watch out for Pek Pek, B-Low, & We The Best. They have an artillery of weapons.

Also on attack mode on Week 6 was Mike Bernard aka Mike Vic. The 2007 Spring League Regular Season M.V.P. looks like he might be getting his 2nd piece of hardware. The way he has been playing has been incredible from both sides of the court. On Week 6, they faced a bitter foe in Los Extraterrestre. Los E.T. is a scrappy bunch hailing from Chelsea. They had a commanding lead in regulation, but Mike Bernard and Rathana Ny (The 2008 Spring League Regular Season M.V.P.) helped rally back. R. Ny knocked down 2 treys to bring their lead down to 3. Ball 4 Fun got the ball back and M. Bernard dribbled down with seconds remaining in regulation. He pump faked and then knocked down a trey to tie the game and bring it into overtime. Once in OT, Ball 4 Fun had the game on lock. If
M. Bernard continues to play this way, Ball 4 Fun can go very far in the post-season.

Also on Week 6, The Hurricanes won their 1st game! Big ups to the Canes.

Week 7: Player of the Week - Vinh Bui (ATB)

Vinh Bui is one of the OG players in the league. He's been playing since 2005, when the league was all Asian. After X-Box 360 and Playstation 3 dropped, the amount of Asians on the court diminished and your boy J. Son had to switch the formula. Anyway, Vinh Bui went berserk on Week 7, scoring a season/team/game/career high 28 points. He helped his squad force overtime and win a tough game against Get Down or Lay Down. Vinh Bui is one of the quickest guards in the league and has improved his 3 point shooting. Watch out for Vinh Bui aka The Vietnamese Vixen.

Oh yeah, I heard a player got knocked out by his own team mate this past week while I was away? What's this world coming to? Is the recession getting us so upset that we need to lay out our own players? God help us.

Sorry for the lack of updates ya'll. Your boy J. Son has been busy this past month with various events, including a Joe Budden In-Store, B-Boy Battle/Art Show, & Store Renovations. Check the photos at our store blog! www.atbboston.com/blog

So it comes down to this. The final week of the regular season. Which squads are the contenders? Which are the pretenders? There will be no upsets this season. Teams 1 through 8 are solid. The playoffs schedule will be up by Friday afternoon. 8 Teams. 1 Champion. Can you feeeeeeeeeeeel it?!?! Playoffs Time. My president is Black, my jeep is too. Holla at me. 1000.

- J. Son

February 12, 2009

Week 4: Player of the Week: Tom Smith (Redeem Team)

Tom Smith aka The Iron Horse single handedly obliterated his opponent on Week 4 with his sharp shooting. He scored a season high 29 points and had the hot hand for the majority of the game. T. Smith helped the Redeem Team defeat the undefeated team ATB. The Redeem Team snapped the ATB's winning streak and they look to do damage for the rest of the season. Watch out for the Redeem Team & Iron Horse ya'll.
